Active IQ Level 3 Award In Designing Exercise Programmes for Older Adults

The aim of this qualification is for the learner to be able to recognise the skills, knowledge and competence needed to work with independently active, older people in an unsupervised manner. There is a particular focus on the considerations for safe and effective exercise and how to plan and adapt exercise for this demographic group. With this course you will learn how to adapt your training methods to the older adult population, this includes the 70+ age group.
Minimum Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing.
The exams are taken during your 2 days of classroom-based learning:

Our training is Covid Safe, social distancing will be observed and where practice requires closer contact PPE will be used. We will be using removable mannequin faces that will be sterilised after each use and mannequin airways and lungs will be changed and replaced for each user.

You may want to specialise in teaching group exercise classes for pregnant women or new mums, teach in the gym or increase your confidence in prescribing safe and effective exercises on a one- one basis. Often women who are expecting or new mums attend classes or gym sessions and will need specific exercises. You need to have the knowledge to adapt your exercise to suit all your clients.
This course will ensure you have the expertise and confidence to give advice and adapt exercises. You will become a skill full and knowledgeable Instructor.

There is a great demand for aqua instructors in the fitness industry and Personal Trainers who can adapt to a water-based environment. If you are looking to increase your skills as an instructor and to gain more knowledge, this course will teach you how to adapt exercises in the water.
There are no formal prerequisites for this course, but we do recommend that you already hold a Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification. Experience of participating in water-based exercise sessions is also beneficial. Please also note that this is an intensive course and you are required to prepare on the evening of day 1 for day 2.
If you do not already have a fitness instructor qualification or it has been 3 years or more since you gained a qualification with the below Mandatory units, you will need to complete these units in addition to a practical teaching assessment. The Mandatory units include the following:

You will learn the practical skills to plan and teach a safe and effective group exercise class to music. This will include aerobics, high intensity interval training, body conditioning or circuit training and relaxation and recovery.
A successful group exercise Instructor needs to have excellent communication skills, love people and have a passion for fitness and encouraging others that just shines. Life as a group exercise instructor is rewarding, and allows you to have fun, be creative and work in an exciting environment that suits you
For many people, exercising in a group situation is the best way to keep fit and healthy. Running the class is just as much fun as attending one. You can work as a freelance instructor in the community and a Health Club or Leisure Centre. Becoming a group training instructor is usually a stepping stone to other careers in the health and fitness industry. You can add other qualifications such as Aqua, Gym instructor, Pre Post natal instructor and much more.
You must be 16 years or older. You do not need any previous experience to be a Group Exercise Instructor, just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

This mat Pilates course will teach you how to instruct a group of individuals and adapt exercises for their different needs and requirements. You will also learn how to prescribe exercises and give advice to individuals with specific postural conditions on a one-one basis.
