Designed for those assessing Vocationally Related Qualifications (VRQs) or similar.

This qualification is for individuals who would like to pursue a career in assessing vocationally related qualifications within the active leisure sector. It is suitable for programme managers, studio coordinators, experienced fitness instructors and any one who would like to help raise the standards in the fitness industry.

Candidates will need to have industry experience and hold a nationally recognised qualification in the subject area that they wish to assess and aged 18 or over

Entry requirements:

  • You must have a Level 2 qualification in Fitness Instructing, Level 3 qualification in Yoga or Pilates (or equivalent)

Course Overview

The aim of this qualification is for the learner to be able to recognise the skills, knowledge and competence needed to work with independently active, older people in an unsupervised manner. There is a particular focus on the considerations for safe and effective exercise and how to plan and adapt exercise for this demographic group. With this course you will learn how to adapt your training methods to the older adult population, this includes the 70+ age group.

Entry Requirements/Learner prerequisites:

Minimum Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing.

  • How to plan and adapt exercise, and adapt session instruction, for independently active, older people.

Course overview:

There is a great demand for aqua instructors in the fitness industry and Personal Trainers who can adapt to a water-based environment. If you are looking to increase your skills as an instructor and to gain more knowledge, this course will teach you how to adapt exercises in the water.

Entry Requirements:

You should already have a level 2 fitness instructors qualification or a level 2 swim teachers qualification to do this training, for example:
• Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing.
• Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Group Training.
• Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing.
Or
• Level 2 Swimming Teaching qualification.

• Some experience of water-based exercise is useful.
• The course requires physical exertion, and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary.
• There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved, and learners should have basic skills in communication.

Purpose

The purpose of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to be able to plan, prepare and deliver safe and effective group water-based exercise sessions. Learners are given an understanding of the principles of instructing water-based exercise, how the properties of water effect exercise and the additional health and safety requirements for delivering sessions in a water-based environment.

Life as a group exercise instructor is rewarding, and allows you to have fun, be creative and work in an exciting environment that suits you

For many people, exercising in a group situation is the best way to keep fit and healthy. Running the class is just as much fun as attending one. You can work as a freelance instructor in the community and a Health Club or Leisure Centre. Becoming a group training instructor is usually a stepping stone to other careers in the health and fitness industry. You can add other qualifications such as Aqua, Gym instructor, Pre Post natal instructor and much more.

You must be 16 years or older. You do not need any previous experience to be a Group Exercise Instructor, just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
