Pregnancy is not an Illness, not a disease just a way of life to bring life into this world. So being pregnant should certainly not be a barrier to exercise! A lot of people exercisers and instructors think it can be and really it doesn’t have to be… With careful consideration we can accommodate our training sessions and classes to meet the needs of the pre or post-natal client.

Yes there are many physiological changes but we can teach you about those and increase your understanding and knowledge so that you can work with these clients much more confidently.

Yes there are adaptations to make to exercise positions at certain stages of the pregnancy and you will learn about those too.

Yes the intensity, range of movement and impact of the exercise will need modifying as the pregnancy progresses. All of these things are easily done and taught to you, by us and then from you to your clients.

Here are just some of the benefits of exercising during pregnant:

  • Helps reduce backache
  • Helps them sleep better
  • May help prevent, or treat, gestational diabetes
  • Increases energy
  • Improves posture
  • Promotes muscle tone, strength, and endurance
  • Exercise will increase general circulation and therefore assist in reducing pregnancy-related swelling, particularly in the extremities
  • Regular activity will help keep mum to be fit during pregnancy and may improve their ability to cope with the labor. This will make it easier for them to get back in shape after the baby is born

We should be helping them to exercise safely before during and after the birth. Remember you don’t need to loose your clients just because they get pregnant! Your clients may need careful monitoring but they certainly don’t need to be excluded.
